The solid dimer, in the form of a powder, is heated in a low vacuum until it sublimes. The gaseous dimer then passes through a pyrolysis area to be “cracked” into three reactive monomers. Passing into the deposition chamber at room temperature, the monomers are adsorbed on all exposed surfaces and spontaneously polymerise to form the parylene film. The thickness of the coating is adjusted depending on its desired function.
